Tryout Process

Joining the Golden Eagles Flight Team begins with a five‑week tryout process designed to teach applicants the fundamentals of the core ground events.
Practices are held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings, with optional sessions on Friday and comprehensive testing every Saturday to evaluate the knowledge and skills learned throughout the week. Tryouts are also invited to team activities and social events to build connections and get to know current members.
At the end of the five weeks, each tryout completes an interview, after which the team selects new members based on performance, dedication, and overall fit with the team.

Primary Ground Events
Aircraft Identification (ACID)
Put your skills of memorization to the test! After being shown a picture of an aircraft for only three seconds, ACID members must identify its manufacturer, model number, and common name.
Computer Accuracy (CA)
Speed and accuracy are key when you are apart of CA! Members test their aviation math skills by computing a broad range of aviation equations by using a manual flight computer, such as an E6B or a CR!
Simulated Comprehensive Aircraft Navigation (SCAN)
What do you get when you put flight planning, regulations, and aircraft performance all into one test? In SCAN, members race to plan a simulated flight using only a plotter and calculator while also keeping in mind any FAA regulations and aircraft limitations!
